Overview of Mater Misericordiae University Hospital
The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH) is a leading level 4 Acute and teaching hospital with over 4,400 employees. The hospital opened in 1861 by the Sisters of Mercy. In addition to the local services for our catchment area, the Mater Hospital provides a range of frontline and specialist services on a regional and national level and is one of the main hospitals of the Ireland East Hospital Group (IEHG).
In conjunction with our academic partner University College Dublin (UCD) the Mater Hospital has a strong track record in research, innovation and education. We pride ourselves on delivering high quality research and innovation that delivers meaningful benefits to patient lives and in educating the next generation of healthcare professionals and researchers.
The addition of the Rock Wing to our campus in 2023 led to the consolidation of many in-patient services in state of the art facilities including 98 new beds, which included 16 new critical care unit beds plus a new home for the National High Level Isolation Unit.
The hospital is the national centre for over 15 specialties and super specialties.
It is one of the eight designated Cancer centres.
It is a major centre for Intensive Care Medicine.
It has a distinctive track record in whole system transformation and innovation.
Chosen to be one of the two Major Trauma Centres in Ireland as part of the National Trauma Network
